Join us on Saturday, October 10 and spend the afternoon making a cute (or spooky) ceramic Halloween creature! Choose to create either a Ghost or a Pumpkin Jack-o’-lantern and ceramic artist Solange Roy will guide you through all the steps of making your piece, from hand building the shape to finishing with under glazing.

Halloween as we know it, originates from the Celtic new year celebration of Samhain, which marks the end of warm weather and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. The Celts believe that on the night before the new year (the night of October 31), the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead become blurred. Traditionally they both honoured the dead and warded off unfriendly spirits, by lighting sacred bonfires, feasting, offering gifts of food, wearing costumes as disguises, and carving root vegetables into lanterns with scary faces to leave on their doorstep.

Whether you celebrate Halloween with a passion, you’re new to the whole thing, or you’re just looking to spend an afternoon being creative with friends, this workshop will be fun for everyone!

Note: This workshop is open to all skill levels. Ceramics will be fired and available for pickup before Halloween! We will reach out to participants with pick up times as soon as firing is finished.
