Welcome to Watercolour 101 with Jin!

In this course with artist and instructor Jinyoung Park, students will learn all the basics: materials, colour mixing, colour harmony, various textures and essential skills in watercolour painting.

Learn and develop technical watercolour skills by tracing and recreating carefully selected demo paintings under the precise, step by step guidance of the instructor. Study a variety of subjects and learn to embrace intentional and unintentional touches, controlling and letting go of brushes, and flaws. This course is designed for those who are new to watercolour or haven’t played with their paints in five or more years.

Note: This course focuses explicitly on painting and does not include drawing. It is recommended that watercolour students hoping to do intermediate watercolour courses in the future, also take a drawing course and gain some comfort with drawing and rendering images before moving to intermediate courses.

Recommended Materials:

9”x12” Strathmore 400 series wired watercolour paper pad
Paint: any decent 12 or 24 watercolour tube set. ($20-$30 range on Amazon would be good.)
- (Or Alizarin Crimson/Vermilion/Cad Yellow/Sap Green/Viridian/Cerulean/Ultramarine/ Burnt Sienna/Payne’s grey… Optional: Opera pink),
Brushes: Round #2, #8, #12, Flat 3/4″,
Backing board: Plastic corrugated board from Michael’s,
1 roll of paper towel,
2 water containers for washing brush,
Masking tape (3M ivory colour is the best),
Spray water bottle,
Pencil & eraser,
12” ruler.
