Student Art Show: Opens June 20, 2025

Forum Art Centre is hosting another Student Art Show this June for our 2024/2025 sessions!

The show will feature work from students of all ages. Anyone who attended a class at Forum in the Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and/or Spring 2025 sessions is invited to show their work. We just want to celebrate the joy of art making. There is no selection process, and all students are welcome!

This is a great opportunity to share where you’re at on your creative journey. Creatives especially, tend to be their own harshest critic, don’t let that critic stop you from showing your work with us this June. We’re so excited to see what students have made this year…

Please keep reading to the FAQ for the upcoming student art show. Here you will find all the details you need to participate!

FAQ – Student Art Show 2025

Who can participate? Anyone (all ages) who attended a class during our 2024/2025 sessions. There is no selection process.

A maximum of 5 READY TO HANG pieces per student (space permitting). Pieces will be displayed at the discretion of the show’s setup crew.

NOTE: Ceramics meant to be displayed on a tabletop surface do not need to be ready to hang.

What does “Ready to Hang” Mean? There is hardware installed on the back of your work making it easy to hang on our wall grids from one of the white metal hooks. This looks like a picture hanging wire attached horizontally to the frame of your piece (either the wood of your canvas, or directly on the picture frame you’re using).

*NOTE: Our hooks are much larger than a nail. Existing hardware built into the structure of a typical picture frame, will not work. You will likely need to add hardware. If you want to check if the existing hardware on your frame is going to work on our hooks, ask us to take a hook home and test it.

Please do not assume the built in hardware in your frame is going to work. We can’t Guarantee that volunteers hanging artwork for the student show will have time to install correct hardware for you. We can’t show your work if it’s not prepared properly.

How do I get my work ready to hang? You only need a view general supplies. All hardware you need for this can be found in a simple ‘picture hanging kit”.

1) Two mounts – eye screws are the easiest (they can screw directly into the wood frame of a canvas), d-rings require additional screws and are necessary if your piece is heavy or in a picture frame.

2) A hanging wire and tool to cut wire – there are all kinds, anything sturdy in relation to your piece works

3) Small screws and screw driver – If you’re using D-rings

If you’re really struggling with adding hanging hardware to your piece, please let us know you need help with lots of time! We can provide advice, assist you, or do it for you if you anticipate dexterity challenges.

How to participate? You do not need to state your intent to partake in the student show in advance this year. All you need to do is drop off your as detailed here.

Artwork drop-off: Monday to Friday, June 9 to 13, 10 AM – 4 PM.  Also, Monday – Tuesday, June 16 and 17, 10 AM – 4 PM.

Additional drop-off time is until 6 PM on Wednesday, June 11 only.

What can I expect when dropping off my work? At drop off students will fill out provided artwork information sheets for the pieces they bring in. Students will also fill out provided labels for their artwork. Students DO NOT need to create their own labels.

If your artwork is not ready to hang, some supplies will be available for you to ready your piece(s) at drop off.

Please do not abandon your work somewhere near the front desk, without checking in with us.

If you drop your work off before the drop off dates – the printed forms and labels you need to fill out may not be present, and you will need to come back and complete this.

Can I sell my work? Yes. However, Forum Art Centre will not be facilitating any sales. If students are interested in arranging their own sales, they can make this known on their artwork label(s) and display their contact information.

Any art sales will be solely between the artist and the purchaser. Forum Art Centre will not accept payments for any artwork sales through the Student Art Show.

When can I pick up my work? Students participating in the show may pick up their work any time during office hours after the opening completes on June 20th.

Artwork pickup: Monday to Friday, June 23 to 27, 10 AM – 4 PM.

What if I don’t pick up my work? The absolute last day to pick up work is Friday, June 27.

All work left behind at Forum Art Centre beyond this date is considered a donation to the centre. Forum Art Centre will not secure storage for artwork after 4 pm on Friday, June 27th.

I can’t pick up my work during the listed dates and hours, what do I do? You will need to have someone pickup your work for you. If another student participating in the show can do this for you, even easier!
