Painterly Approaches To Figure Drawing

Painterly Approaches to Figure Drawing’ is a course in Figure drawing with an emphasis on medium exploration and stylization. While discovering the potential of materials, students will also learn the basics of proportion, rhythms, and planes of the figure. By utilizing various types of charcoal, and tools such as stumps, brushes and blending materials students will explore various techniques of drawing from photographic reference and the live model. While the primary goal of this course is to expose students to the potential of various drawing materials, we will also explore how the understanding of fundamental drawing concepts such as line quality, edges and lighting are manipulated to create a three dimensional illusion

Note: The class will include three session with a live model. This class is held in our basement studio with stair access only.
