Ten Weeks
No class on Monday February 16.
This course is part of a two-part series, preceded by “Figure Drawing: The Fundamentals” in fall with Cullen Bingeman.
You’ve studied some figure drawing, but now you want to translate that knowledge into your area of interest or study. This is a class that will teach you how to simplify the challenges of the clothed figure based on a constructive approach to drawing. Students will be introduced to the basics of drapery, including the different kinds of folds and how they work together to help describe the figure. We will cover a simple and efficient approach to laying in the figure and how to handle different kinds of clothing to produce a pleasing and clear design. An emphasis will be placed on quick sketch drawing from photographs progressing up to longer efforts. The skills learned in this course are applicable to many genres of art including illustration, design and invention, costume, and life drawing. By the end of the course students will be able to envision and construct the clothed figure from imagination
Note: The class will include three session with a live model. This class is held in our basement studio with stair access only.
PS: This course is part of a two-part series, and was preceded by “Figure Drawing: The Fundamentals” in fall. You do not need to have taken Figure Drawing: The Fundamentals to take this course.
